MISSISSAUGA, ON / TORONTO, ON — February 5, 2025 — Canurta Inc. (“Canurta”) today announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (“MOU”) with International Business University (“IBU”) and the Institute of Peoples, Territories, and Pedagogies for Peace (“IPTP”). The MOU creates a structured pathway for originating, developing, and commercializing community-led projects in sectors such as energy, digital infrastructure, agriculture, mining, adaptive ancestral medicine, environment and conservation, and ancestral knowledge systems across Afro-Colombian, Indigenous, rural and other historically marginalized communities in the Americas.

Effective January 19, 2026, the MOU establishes a five-year framework, intended to serve as the basis for long-term collaboration, for coordinated project development, applied academic programming, and commercial execution that respects collective rights, territorial governance, and locally driven decision-making. The collaboration is grounded in a decolonizing, community-first approach and a shared commitment to supporting economic sovereignty for under-represented groups.

Commercial Pathway: From Community Projects to Bankable Infrastructure

Under the MOU, Canurta and IPTP will jointly act as commercial and strategic coordinators for projects developed within this framework. Canurta’s mandate includes:

  • Evaluating technical and economic feasibility

  • Structuring commercialization pathways

  • Coordinating and helping to secure capital for viable projects

The Parties intend to prioritize community-based energy and productive infrastructure projects that integrate local resources with economically productive digital and industrial applications. As an initial focus, the MOU contemplates renewable energy infrastructure in the 5–20 MW range in Afro-descendant communities, designed to demonstrate a repeatable model for future project deployment across additional sectors and territories.

Through this collaboration, Canurta expects to gain:

  • A pipeline of community-originated projects screened through structured feasibility work

  • De-risked development roadmaps that can support third-party investment

  • Opportunities for downstream execution and revenue-sharing arrangements, to be defined in project-specific agreements

“This MOU reflects a shared commitment to building durable partnerships that can responsibly unlock real economic value in communities that have historically been excluded from mainstream development,” said Akeem Gardner, CEO and Founder of Canurta Inc. “For Canurta shareholders, it creates a strategic pathway to originate, structure, and participate in commercially viable infrastructure initiatives—starting with energy and digital systems—while aligning with community priorities and environmental stewardship.”

Integrated Academic Partnership to Support Execution

IBU will provide academic leadership through the co-design and delivery of applied graduate programming, such as project-based learning within its MBA offerings, along with supervised student participation and applied research linked directly to project development.

IPTP, based in Bogotá, Colombia, will serve as the primary institutional and community liaison, supporting culturally appropriate engagement, territorial governance alignment, and the design of benefit- and revenue-sharing frameworks that reflect ancestral knowledge and community priorities.
